Skivers Hobby Blog

Introductory Post

Hello

Greetings to anyone stumbling across this for the first time. This is the first post of hopefully many where I show the different hobbies I do, as well as share my thoughts about how I achieved my results. A little about myself, my name is Skivers(nickname) and I have been a part of a large variety of hobbies all of my life.

Video Games

Ever since I could remember, I was always someone who was attracted to video games. My first system was the Dreamcast and I still remember playing Sonic the Hedgehog to this day. Ever since then I have played on every single console, and have made countless memories on them. Nowadays, I solely play on PC and have recently been enjoying the Steam Deck.

Board Games

If I was never playing video games, I was always asking someone to play either card games or tabletop games with me. I guess it's something about having a sense of competition as well as having an enjoyable time which pulled me in. The biggest tabletop games I have played is Gloomhaven. When a board game weighs over 20 lbs in the box alone, it's bound to be good. To this date, there has probably been 150+ hours spent playing through one campaign, and it doesn't get boring for one second.

Dungeons & Dragons

Over the past year and a half I have delved into the world of Dungeons & Dragons. This never struck me as something that I would've enjoyed, but when a friend of mine approached me and asked me to be their Dungeon Master, I decided to dive in and take the challenge. Thank goodness I did. This has been one of the most enjoyable I have developed for my friends and I to experience on a weekly/bi-weekly basis. The laughs and the suspense always gets them wanting more.

Magic: The Gathering

Just before the pandemic of Covid-19, I decided to grab a beginner deck of MTG cards and see how it was. I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh when I was younger, and as the series got older the mechanics became much more confusing. I had always heard about Magic, but never really knew too much else. When I cracked open that deck and say the fantasy-themed cards and the vibrant artwork, I knew this was the TCG that I always needed. To this day I still play Magic and still collect.

Warhammer

This hobby was something that always concerned me. I was by no means gifted at being artistic, and actually struggled in my art classes growing up. Creativity and having the coordination to capture a thought on a blank canvas were my weaknesses. I only approached Warhammer since I had been playing Vermintide 2 and Warhammer III on PC, and was fascinated by the lore of it all. So like all hobbies, I took a training session and learned how to paint a small Space Marine. After watching for a few minutes and actually painting my own for the first time, I was blown away at the simplicity and relaxation I was experiencing. The store owner was so helpful in introducing me to the hobby, which helped me overcome my weaknesses of being artistic.
